Support Pamela Smart: New Legal Proceedings on Trial Errors

$5,000 of $85,000 raised

  Organized by Post-Conviction Counsel

Current as of February 2025:

This is the place to support Pamela Smart's new 2025 habeas corpus filing. Donations will support legal fees and expert expenses.

34 years ago, Pamela Smart was at the center of a sensationalized media storm. In 1991, Pamela stood accused of accomplice to murder by the justice system and was convicted by the media well before her trial began. Media outlets greedy for readership clamored for the most outrageous headline, deeming Pamela the “The Ice Queen” and “The Black Widow.” Pamela was forced to endure a trial steeped in the media’s self-serving demonization. The media’s thirst for scandal and sensationalism, combined with trial errors, railroaded her chance of a fair trial. As a result, Pamela was wrongly convicted and has spent over three decades in prison. She was sentenced to live out the remainder of her life in prison without any chance of parole.

Pamela is asking for support so she may receive a fair retrial. She was presumed guilty without the opportunity to prove herself innocent. Now is her chance. Pamela seeks to file for a state habeas corpus proceeding, a legal proceeding still available to her.

New research has revealed errors that occurred during her trial that could renew her chance for justice. Countless hours have been spent scouring over thousands of pages of documents with the belief that Pamela deserved, and still deserves, better. Findings will be brought in her new legal filings.

Pamela has dedicated herself to helping others during her three decades in prison. She has helped hundreds of women get their high school diplomas, associates, and bachelor’s degrees. She has worked as a certified HIV/AIDS counselor and approved caretaker for fellow inmates struggling physically and mentally, among many other ways of seeking out service. Pamela herself has earned several masters degrees and a doctorate.

Pamela is seeking help, any small donation goes a long way in the legal fight for freedom. Funds will go towards legal representation by post-conviction attorneys at Zernhelt Law LLC.

All funds received will go directly to supporting expenses for renewed legal proceedings for Pamela Smart. Any remaining funds will be used to support legal expenses in her future. Any other remaining funds will be donated directly to the Innocence Project.
