Yes, the houses we grew up in are still there, but many of the neighborhoods have deteriorated and are now filled with families who cannot ensure their teenagers are ready to learn when they arrive on MHS’s campus. At-risk students require on-going intervention to assure a positive transition to adulthood and once identified, these students are carefully tracked over the life of their attendance at MHS.
In addition to providing individualized services, MHS receives state and federal funding to help at-risk students meet ongoing basic needs, such as pay for temporary shelter and utilities, but the amount provided is never enough - funds run out before the school year ends, this year is no different!!
Any small gift can help pay part of an overdue utility bill to a company threatening to cut off water or electricity or pay part of a hotel voucher for one night’s shelter for a student and family who otherwise would be homeless.
So far, over $12,000 has been donated. Thank you to everyone who donated thus far. To help continue this at-risk donation process, the class of 1969 has now teamed up with the Manzano Legacy Foundation, Inc. to streamline the process of providing these particular donations to MHS.
Rest assured all funds raised through this site will be accounted for and used only to help identified “at-risk” MHS students. Funds will be distributed to a 501(c)(3) organization. As such, your donation is tax deductible. The Tax ID for this is organization is 883741880
You can make a donation by following the checkout prompts above. Thank you for your generosity.
