*To become a fully certified Y12SR Leader, you must complete both Part 1 (Online Intensive) and Part 2 (Leadership Training) of the certification program. Part 1 is available online HERE. It is recommended (but not required) that you complete Part 1 prior to starting Part 2 of the training.

Do you want to share the powerful framework of Y12SR with those who are impacted by addiction?
The Y12SR Leadership Training is an evidence-based certification program that will prepare and support you in:

  • Creating a safe, sacred, open, and inclusive space that welcomes all who are dealing with their own addictive behavior, or that of others
  • Understanding the 12-Step process of recovery
  • Recognizing symptoms of unresolved trauma and emotional dysregulation
  • Sharing yoga as a tool for relapse prevention, and to sustainably manage internal states
  • Utilizing teachable moments to help resolve ambivalence and work with those who are struggling emotionally
  • Using social learning theory to model new behavior and support observational learning
  • Recognizing the traps of projection, transference, countertransference, boundary violation, and spiritual bypass/arrogance
  • Working collaboratively within the group setting and within institutions
  • Developing a network of professionals, including trauma experts and others in the field of addiction recovery

Through ancient texts and modern research in neuroscience, we will learn how the cognitive approach of the 12-step program, the trauma-informed approach of Somatic Experience and the body-based approach of yoga and mindfulness practices work together to bring about changes in brain patterning. Driven by the theme “the issues live in our tissues,” this holistic framework for relapse prevention fosters compassionate awareness, change, and healing.

Designed for yoga teachers who wish to work with the recovery population, this training is also extremely relevant and helpful for therapists, counselors, social workers, probation officers and others who wish to understand how the philosophies and practices of yoga align with the 12-step program of recovery.

This training is the second step of the two-part certification process. Upon completion of both the Online Intensive and Leadership Training, you will be fully certified to lead Y12SR meetings in community or clinical settings. You will also receive access to a private library of training and marketing materials, and ongoing support from a community of professionals. Yoga Alliance approved for continuing education/training.

Kyczy Hawk

Kyczy Hawk E-RYT 500 is a yoga teacher and author. She teaches in treatment centers as well as yoga studios in her hometown of San Jose, CA. Her volunteer time includes teaching yoga in Elmwood Women's jail and The Recovery Cafe San Jose. She has been a space-holder for the internationally known Y12SR (Yoga of 12 Step Recovery) Program for over five years.

She specializes in incorporating somatic yoga techniques, a specific yoga style designed to bring attention to parts of the body from which we may have become disconnected due to repetitive stress, accident, illness, injury, or other forms of trauma. This increased awareness can promote impulse control and provide tools for preventing anxiety. These yoga techniques are ideal for people recovering from addictions as reintegrating sensory awareness with choice and thought patterns support other healing modalities

She has published several books, including "Yoga and the Twelve Step Path" (2012) and "Life in Bite-Sized Morsels" (2015). She is a contributor to national and international magazines: I Love Recovery Cafe, Yoga Times, 12 Step Gazette, OM Magazine, and Indigo International among others.

Kyczy is in long-term sobriety herself and has worked with countless others throughout her 30+ years of recovery

Y12SR

Yoga of 12-Step Recovery offers a rich and powerful framework for addiction recovery and relapse prevention.

Y12SR "connects the dots" between the ancient wisdom of yoga, the practical tools of 12-step programs, and the latest research on trauma healing and neurobiology. As part of a holistic recovery program, it works in tandem with traditional treatment to address the physical, mental, and spiritual disease of addiction.

The program serves people recovering from all manifestations of addiction, from behavioral addictions to substance abuse – creating a safe place on the mat where trauma can be released. It also supports those who are impacted by a loved one’s addiction. Weekly meetings led by certified Y12SR leaders are available in community settings across the United States. Y12SR is also offered as an adjunctive therapy in a growing number of addiction recovery treatment centers.
