Helping Hands - (HH)
Since 2002 we have provided support services and programs to 3,500 youth, adults, families, and disabled Veterans who are at-risk. Helping with basic needs like food, shelter, social services, and transportation.
With just a donation of $1,000 for the year, an individual, a family, or disabled Veteran will receive resources for help from a Case Manager with short term goals, like obtaining a bus pass, their GED, or completing certification to expand sustainable job opportunities, or long term goals like going to college, saving up for a car, or a down payment for a home.
The 3,500 clients participating in our programs have received resources to food, job opportunities, help with utilities, help with transportation, hurricane preparedness, and cleanup, COVID information, a path to affordable housing, and homeownership.
The demographics of the population we serve are 95% African American, were the annual family income of four is less than $24,000 according to the ALICE Report by the United Way in March 2019. The unemployment rate is over 64% and 75% of the students are on free or reduced lunch. Your support could help us have a greater impact on reaching some of the most vulnerable who fall between the cracks have been left out of case management services, which is how most resources make it to our community to help improve the lives of residents and strengthen families.
