Chris traveled to Texas to marry his fiancee. What should have been one of the happiest moments of his life became a tragedy that changed everything.
According to Chris and his fiancée, outside of the motel where they were staying, they were attacked by three local men (who weren't legally allowed to rent a room there). These 3 men) had been out for 12 hours straight, drinking and doing cocaine. They also were expecting strippers to show up for them (which was later admitted to by two of the men). Chris and his fiancee suffered injuries during the confrontation. They were knocked unconscious. When Chris woke up, he saw her being dragged inside the motel by these men.
Chris was legally carrying a firearm, and knowing she faced an immediate threat, he fired his weapon. One of the men died, and the other two fled.
What followed has been a long legal battle. Chris was tried twice. The first trial ended with a hung jury. At the second trial, he was convicted and sentenced to 38 years in prison, despite having no prior criminal record. He has spent over $150,000, and now more is needed to file an appeal to have this wrongful conviction overturned. We need to raise $40,000.00 for the appeal process.. . The appeal process works in two phases. The first phase is $15,000.00, but the attorney will START on his case for 1/2 of that amount ($7,500). The remaining half of the first phase will be due between 60 to 90 days (end of first phase, which is investigative). Then the rest of the money will be due to begin the second phase of the appeal process.
As of today, 9/17/26, we have raised $400. I will update as often as I can.
We believe his actions were taken in defense of himself and his fiancée and that important questions about the case deserve further review. We continue to advocate for a full and fair examination of all the facts surrounding that night.
