Carolina Sport & Social Club: Pay It Square FAQ
How does this service work?
You are entering a team into one of Carolina Sport & Social Club's leagues. The league fee is a few hundred bucks and you need to collect a little money from everyone on your team. Rather than running around with a clipboard or Excel sheet, trying to organize cash and checks, you can use Pay It Square to collect the money from your teammates online.
It's simple - you set up a page, invite your teammates, and collect payments online. Your teammates can pay you with their existing PayPal account, bank transfer, credit or debit card. All payments from teammates are sent to your PayPal account. Your PayPal account must be a Premier account (free) and verified with a bank. You will still need to register on www.carolinasportandsocial.com for the league of your choice, however Pay It Square makes it easier than ever for you to collect the money from your team!
To accept credit card payments from your teammates you must have a verified PayPal Premier account.

If I use Pay It Square, will my spot in the league be reserved?
No. The only way to reserve a spot in a Carolina Sport and Social league is to make full payment to Carolina Sport & Social Club.
Pay It Square provides the means to easily gather this full payment: you can either front the money and collect from your team after you've registered, or you can collect from your team before you register.
Either way, your league spot is not reserved until Carolina Sport & Social Club receives full payment.
Are you going to distribute my email address or send me junk mail?
Not a chance! We hate junk mail. We pledge to send you only one email per calendar month with promotional material. You will have the option to opt-out of these, which we will honor immediately. We also pledge not to sell your information or distribute it in any way.
* Please note that we do also send emails when users take actions (providing receipt when users make a payment, confirming registrations etc) but we provide the ability for you to opt-out of these, as well.
How do fees work?
It's simple! The organizer chooses who pays the service fees.
- The organizer can either pay the fees him or herself or ...
- The organizer can pass the fees along to those making payments
Fees only apply to online payments.
What happens when the organizer chooses to pass the fees along to those making payments?
The Payer is charged a 99¢ fee per transaction.
- When a Payer pays with their PayPal account balance or bank transfer, there are no additional fees.
Example: You are collecting $50 USD from someone. The payer is charged $50.99. You receive $50. Pay It Square receives $0.99.
- If a Payer uses a credit card, an additional fee of 2.9% + $0.30 is charged by PayPal (see international rates here).
Example: You are collecting $50 USD from someone. The payer is charged $52.77 USD. You receive $50 USD. Pay It Square receives $0.99. PayPal receives $1.78.
Don't worry, we make this all very easy for both the organizer and payer to understand and track. Everything is disclosed throughout the entire payment process.
What happens when the organizer chooses to pay the service fees on behalf of payers?
The Organizer is charged a 99¢ fee per transaction.
- When a Payer pays with their PayPal account balance or bank transfer, there are no additional fees.
- If a Payer pays via credit card, the Organizer is charged an additional 2.9% + $1.29 USD per transaction. This is the total fee including all PayPal fees. Pay It Square's fee is 99¢ and PayPal charges 2.9% + $0.30.
Why does Pay It Square charge 99¢ more than standard PayPal fees?
We charge fees in order to provide our service. This is the only money we collect. It is our way of generating revenue. Collecting these fees allow us to further develop and improve the site.
What currencies do you support?
Currency collection is configurable during the Collect Money Page setup process. Below is a list of our supported currencies:
- Australian Dollar (AUD)
- British Pound (GBP)
- Canadian Dollar (CAD)
- Euro (EUR)
- Mexican Peso (MEX)
- U.S. Dollar (USD)
Do I need to provide secure information, such as my social security number, to setup a Pay It Square account?
Absolutely not. All we need is the email address you use with your PayPal account.
Who needs a PayPal account to use this site?
The only person who needs a PayPal account is the organizer of the collect page(s).
Does someone need a PayPal account to pay me online?
No, they don't need a PayPal account to pay you online. They can use their credit card to pay online without a PayPal account. To accept credit card payments you must have a verified PayPal Premier account.

Where does the money I collect online go?
The money collected online goes directly into your PayPal account that you specify when you sign up as an organizer.
How do I get my money out of PayPal?
PayPal offers many options, including sending you a check, transferring it to your bank account and they even issue a debit card that is connected to your account. You can also just hold the money in your PayPal account and send money to people via PayPal.
How do I handle refunds?
Refunds are simple. You handle them through your PayPal account. Log in to your PayPal account and you will be able to issue refunds there. PayPal supports full and partial refunds.

PayPal won't let me pay with just a credit card. It is trying to make me sign up for a PayPal account as well. How can I pay with just a credit card?
This occurs when the organizer does not have a PayPal Premier account that is not verified with a bank. To upgrade, the organizer should see the above links and video tutorials on creating or upgrading a PayPal account. Be sure to verify your Premier account with a bank and, if they have not already done so, confirm their email address. This is highlighted in the tutorial videos.
