Wow! We are absolutely floored by the overwhelming generosity of our friends and family in the HVAC community. Thanks to you, we surpassed our first goal of $5,000 and exceeded our $7,500 goal soon thereafter. Below is an update from our VP of Operations, Ken Schreiber, about our recent efforts and how our company's philosophy, based on the book Gung Ho by Ken Blanchard, has been demonstrated through employees' actions since the storm.

Over the past week, Houston has seen the worst flooding in history. Eleven from the Century family had water in their homes, several have been displaced and others had their cars flooded. This has definitely been a tough time at Century but one thing is for sure, it has shown our Gung Ho spirit is alive.

 

In the Gung Ho! book, Andy talks about the Spirit of the Squirrel: Worthwhile Work. He said “…work goes beyond important. It’s worthwhile.” This has been true over the past week.

Before the rains ever came, everyone worked hard to ensure the branches were prepared for the possibility of flooding by moving product to higher shelves, rearranging the yard to avoid commercial equipment from flooding, testing the sump pumps in the truck wells, and the list goes on and on.

As the rain stopped and the water started to recede, the Gung Ho spirit continued with volunteers stepping up to help those in the Century family whose homes had flooded. This required getting the wet floors and sheetrock out of the house before the mold could start to grow. In a matter of hours, there were 12-14 people at the first house on Wednesday evening to begin the remediation process. The following morning there were 10 at the next home to remove the flooring. The last home was on Friday, but the call for help didn’t come until 10:30 am. By 2:00 pm that afternoon, 14 people had shown up to help. Even though everyone could not help those whose homes flooded at Century, there have been hundreds of hours volunteered in the community, all working to “make the world a better place”.
