Welcome! I will be running (maybe a little walking, too!) my first Half Marathon...the Virginia Beach Rock-n-Roll Half Marathon on Sunday, September 2, 2012.

In July of 2011, I was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer, which had spread to twelve lymph nodes. I had a full thyroidectomy, central neck dissection, and modified right neck dissection,. I also received a high dose of Radioactive Iodine Treatment (RAI), during which I was isolated (in my attic) from all people for a week, due to how radioactive I was to others during this time.

It has been less than 1 year since my RAI treatment and I am running my third race, the first of this long distance. While I was isolated in my attic, I had this desire to make the most of every day I have been given and to be the healthiest I could possibly be, despite these obvious setbacks. So, 2 weeks after my isolation was over, I went for my first run. I could barely run around the corner without stopping to take a breath! In addition to being without a thyroid and having had cancer treatment, I also have asthma...which certainly provides enough challenges when I run. However, through this past year, I've seen my endurance slowly grow, as I run longer distances. I'd like to  provide hope to other Thyroid Cancer Survivors and to help raise money for ThyCa: Thyroid Cancer Survivors' Assocation, Inc. at This wonderful organization has helped myself and tens of thousands of other survivors deal with the many issues involved with Thyroid Cancer and its treatment. They use money to help survivors and to help fund research so that maybe we can find a cure.

It just so happens that September (the month of the race!) is Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month. Please help support me and this worthy cause with a donation! THANK YOU!!
