What should a prosecutor do when confronted with the possibility of a wrongful conviction?

Attend Innocence Matters’ Second Annual Courageous Truth Award and learn more about one courageous leader’s determination to follow the truth in all circumstances.

Our keynote speaker, Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins, is forging the way toward a more just system.  In 2007, Mr. Watkins opened the Conviction Integrity Unit with two main objectives: (1) to educate prosecutors about the causes of wrongful convictions; and (2) to take a careful look at closed cases with available DNA evidence and a reason to suspect a wrongful conviction.  Since 2007, the Unit has discovered and freed thirty-two innocent people.  Mr. Watkins will share his vision for a criminal justice system that relentlessly follows the truth and will reveal experiential insights into post-conviction investigation.

A Q&A session will follow the keynote. Join us as we explore ways to enhance the quality and integrity of the criminal justice system in Los Angeles.
